Friday August 18th
There is a chance of rain today at Saratoga so I did do some selections for off the turf just in case mother nature decides to mess things up. I will not be doing picks next week because I will be taking some much needed R&R.
Best Bet Race 8 #5 A Fleet Attitude
Long Shot Play Race 9 #2 True Charm
1st 3-1-9 OFF TURF 5-11-1
There seems to be very little if any pace in this race so I'll take shot with #3 Pinchbeck who has shown some early foot in her career albeit at shorter distances. Her pedigree suggests should not have an issue with today's distance and may wire this field.
Pick 4 Play for .50 cents 1,2,3,7/1,4,6/1,7/1,2,6,8=$48
#3 Waco has not raced in over a year but he loves the spa having won three starts in five tries, all of those coming against much better foes. He's also been working very well for this start so I'm hoping the old Waco shows up today fresh and ready to roll.
3rd 1-4-6 OFF TURF 12-11-8
#1 Docs Legacy won his last start here three weeks ago at a longer distance and a higher level. David Jacobson is 38% dropping his horses off a win. The cut back to a mile today give this guy a great chance to wire the field.
4th 7-1-6 OFF TURF 2-6-7
Today's feature is the 100K Skidmore Stakes for 2 year olds going 5 1/2 furlongs on the turf. #7 El Dulce won his debut by a neck in wire to wire fashion. He was actually passed in the stretch but dug in to come back to win. He's had a solid 4 furlong work since that race so he seems to be in solid form.
#6 Droselmeyr's Smile is a first time starter for Charlton Baker who is quietly having a solid meet with limited starters. Her damn has produced six winners from all six starters including four stakes winners. She's had a solid set of works for her debut and I like the fact that Joel Rosario takes the mount.
6th 4-7-6 OFF TURF 9-10-11
#4 Lunaire was making a move down the stretch in his last start before being blocked late behind horses in the Grade 3 Kent Stakes at Delaware Park. He's really seemed to take a liking to the turf since trying it for the first time back in February and this drop in class has to help his chances.
Pick 4 Play for .50 cents 1,2,4/5,6,7/2,4,6,8,9,10/2,3,5=$81
#2 Distorted Admiral finished second to a runaway winner last time out at this level and had a horrible trip after a bad start. He's come back with a bullet 4 furlong work best of 44 followed by a nice breeze which is an angle I really like.
#5 A Fleet Attitude returns to the level where he won two back at Belmont. This guy rarely runs a bad race having hit the board in 27 out of 32 career starts with 11 wins. He seems to be on an every other race win streak. Two wins on an off track moves him forward even more today if it happens to rain.
9th 2-4-6 OFF TURF 2-3-8
#2 True Charm won her last race here at this distance in wire to wire fashion. She takes the next logical step up in class. she's been very consistent at this distance on the turf in her career, plus she's had a solid work since her last start. I'm hoping she blows up the tote board in a very tough race.
#2 Sanavi drops in class and returns to the dirt after two fair efforts on the turf. Todd Pletcher is 22% with his turf to dirt runners. I also like the fact that Jose Ortiz takes the mount today.
